The Artist
Born in Bloemfontein in 1941, Hennie Niemann Snr has dedicated over sixty years to painting. After teaching for 19 years, he committed fully to his art — relocating to Onrus in the Western Cape in 1983, encouraged by his friend and neighbour, Gregoire Boonzaier.
His work carries the influence of both Boonzaier and Father Frans Claerhout, particularly in its warmth and directness. Niemann is celebrated for his beloved Harvesters and Fynbos Pickers — subjects he returns to with an ever-deepening sensitivity to colour and form.
